Our Curriculum
Our Pre-College Certificate Program is carefully structured to provide an effective all-around musical education assuring students have a firm grasp on key subjects, giving them a significant advantage for success in college.
Most importantly, whether students wish to pursue a musical career or are just passionate about their instrument, they will be given all the tools in order to fulfill their individual artistic potential.
LMA offers many courses which fall into the below curriculum categories. Each course is worth a certain amount of credits, and each student must acquire 50 credits to receive the Pre-College Certificate of Completion. Students may also take classes "à la carte" without being enrolled in the certificate program.
Within every program, there are required core classes, as well as non-required courses that can be taken in place of electives. Each program will require a placement quiz to assure students enter a course that is suitable for their level.

Private Lessons

Music Theory
The first step towards achieving your full artistic potential, is understanding the harmonic language of music. Our courses in Music Theory are carefully crafted to guide students of all levels ranging from musical notation, intervals, chords, and scales, all the way through fugue analysis, composition, and arranging.

Music History
Interpretation of music starts with a thorough understanding of history. Being aware of context, life events of the composer, the overall development of music, performance styles and techniques during the era and geographic region in which the music was composed are all critical to present an informed rendition of a piece of music.

Ear Training
Courses that focus on developing rhythm, site-reading, pitch/interval identification, music dictation, and much more. Developing your skills within the ear training courses will help tremendously with learning music faster, and playing your pieces more precisely!

Electives
In addition to our "core" curriculum, all students will have the opportunity to take a wide variety of electives touching on technology in music (audio/video editing, photoshop, etc.) as well courses meant to help students find a place in the professional world of music (orchestra rep, business of music, etc.)
