  • How young should I start my kids off with lessons?
We find that every child has different temperment, and ability to sit still and focus for an extended period of time. But generally, we would advise that the child should be at least 5 years old. The beginner lessons may need to be 30 minutes long, and then extend the length as lessons progress.
  • Am I too old to take lessons?
NO! Music lessons are good for people of all ages, and it's never too late to begin. We deal with many adult students who are interested in just picking up a new beautiful hobby, or people who used to play as children and are looking rekindle their relationship with the instrument. We have teachers who are experts in working with adults, and there's no pressure, it's 100% for your benefit!

  • How often should I take lessons? How long should they be?
We find that to get the best results from lessons, and to avoid developing bad habits, weekly lessons is highly recommended. For young children, 30-45 min lessons may be appropriate, but for adults of most levels, 1-hour lessons are the standard length.
  • What is the benefit of enrolling in the Pre-College Certificate program?
We find that students work best when there is structure, clear goals, and a sense of completion. With the LMA Pre-College Certificate program, students will not simply be taking an undefined amount of instrumental lessons, but will be enjoying 12-week long courses at the end of which they will receive certificates of completion. They receive credits for each of these courses, as well as their private lessons. Furthermore, when students only take instrumnetal lessons, it forces their teacher to spend precious lesson time giving them information on theory, ear training, history, and more - however when your child takes dedicated classes for these subjects, it provides them with a much more thorough and all-around understanding of music speeding up their development, and will ultimately make their private instrumental lessons more effective.
